So after seeing this video it made me really think of the little details that goes on in the world daily. It gives examples of so many things that happen daily around the world that the average person would never really think about. For instance, who knew that “the top ten in-demand jobs in 2010 didn’t exist in 2004.” Still, I wasn’t very surprised by the statistics I saw. I know our world today is growing and developing so fast by the second. I was just shocked that someone or a group of someone actually got their hands on some statistics at all.
Anyway, after watching the video and reading part of Alan Kirby’s article I think that in a way we are heading into a period of postmodernism. How is it possible that in only a number years there can be a computer that smarter than any human being? It is a scary thought to think that someday technology may just overtake us and there would be no more need for humans. From what I’m seeing in the video, there are so many things that make me think back to Brave New World.
In Brave New World the people are practically created and taught to act and feel a certain way towards every aspect of life. From the job they have to the person they have a relationship with they are expected to accept and like whatever situation they’re put it. This in a way relates to us today ‘cause I kind of see this in the video and other similar videos. In the videos, it makes it seen as though our technology advancement is so quick and effective that in no time at all it will overtake society replacing most people’s job.
I know that some people may argue that the technology advancement we see are just there and they don’t really have anything to do with us going into a postmodern era. They may even say that we’re NOT even going into a period of postmodern and it’s just people over thinking the situation. All I have to say is that, this is just my personal opinion and who knows what is going to happen in the next decade or so.

OOOoooOoooOooo. I like how you incorporated Brave New World into this blog. It really is scary to think of what is going to happen, and what will happen. We do not really know, but we can base it off of what and how we are today. But then..we do not even know how we are in the present, or how we were in the past, we just know these "facts", and so we must base our future off of these "facts" and hope for the best. But it really is terrifying to even think of the future. Because we truly have no idea what it has in store for us. With technology advancing so quickly.... AHHH!! We could even be defeated by ourselves. "Technology" will be running our planet, well it kind of already is, and the day we realize how far we have come- we will be at war with ourselves. But AHHH! I hateee this! Hahaa, this class! These books! Postmodernism! It all just scares me about the future. It makes me overthink. But anywayss....good job :)
ReplyDeleteSo I would like to start off by saying good job on your blog :) And I will tell you that I am not going to be one of those people who argues with you because I completely agree. I think we are going to reach a postmodern era, that's if we are not there already. Oh and nice job tying it to Brave New World, it just seems like Brave New World is foreshadowing our future doesn't it? With all its advance technology and such and we are getting there soon enough according to the facts from that video we watched. There is just so much information out there that the majority of it has become useless and meaningless. And I think we could be in huge trouble if this technology somehow ends up in the wrong hands, this ties in with Cat's Cradle because it can lead to the end of the world. Alright, I'm just rambling now, but the point is, good job!
ReplyDeleteLaverne, you are such a smart cookie.
ReplyDeleteI like how you connected the video to Brave New World. Good connection there. You weren't shocked by the statistics?? Man I know that the world is advancing every single second I just didn't know that it was to such an extreme amount. I also agree with you about the postmodern era, however I believe we reached the postmodern peak in the 1990's. The era of TVs and radio. Now we, I think are in an era of post post modernism the era of internet and text messaging. People have different values now then they did in the past. Good job tehe :)
